Grades of Walks

Walks for Women walk grades:

A walk's grade is based on a number of variables including:
*the height gained
*how many miles we cover
*the steepness and number of gradients/slopes/hillsides

Don't overestimate your fitness the first time you come out with us
Remember changing weather, hot or cold temperatures or wet and muddy ground can have on your walking pace and stamina.

Young people under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a female parent or guardian.
All Walks for Women Guides have a current CRB certificate.

Easy
Short, usually flat walks around 2-3 miles / 3-8 km going at a leisurely pace. Paths may be uneven. Walking boots preferred but not essential. Always better to wear boots if wet muddy and slippy.

Moderate
Walking boots required. Medium length walks around 3 - 9 miles / 5 - 15 km. A reasonable level of fitness is required, on hilly ground with rising and falling levels.

Hard
Walking boots required. Long, energetic walks up to 9 miles / 14 km. Some ascents or descents may be quite steep. A good level of fitness is required.

Strenuous
Walking boots required. Long, full-day walks of up to 10 miles / 16 km. Some steep ascents and descent. A very good level of fitness and stamina is required. On certain routes there may be easy Grade 1 scrambles for those who wish to try!
